Design Project: Shadow and Light

My design 111 project dealt

with the repetition of a particular
angled shape. Beginning
with an upright structure
this evolved into a model
that lies prone on a surface.
The key to this particular
model was the shadow which
it created under certain specific
light conditions. Made initially
out of paper then from two
different types of card, first
a soft type and later a final rigid type.
The quality of the craft and
the shadow that the structure cast
improved as the material became
more difficult to work with. Some of
the construction techniques that
I employed included different levels of
scoring card. For example very
light scoring was used on the thin card
however when scoring the thick
card care had to be taken only to penetrate
the layers that where
essential to the bend. The resulting shape
was angular and employed
hard flat surfaces to its advantage in
catching and casting interesting
shadow and light.
